Voip in KZN

By Carel Boshoff -Vukatel KZN
With the introduction of Voice Over Internet Protocol several years ago to consumers in Kwa Zulu/Natal it was clear that a lot had to be done to improve the service and to set higher standards for the industry to create platforms for communication via the internet.
Along came O-Tel Telecoms, an international role player in the industry, and things started to change. Products was created and improved on to service the current markets, with the available infra structure for hosting internet based services in mind. Internet based services, with the focus on VOIP, was hosted on the existing ADSL (copper) infrastructure, provided by Telkom.
Services and products was fine tuned to best utilise theADSL infra-structure and to get the best service from the available medium. Fibre Optic cables was a pipe dream at the time and where available, extremely expensive, to say the least.

Today O-Tel Telecoms and it’s partner Vukatel, provides stable and cost effective VOIP services to a large number of clients in Kwa Zulu/Natal ranging from Durban in the South to Newcastle in the North of Kwa Zulu/Natal. Although most clients are hosted on the current entry level medium of ADSL, larger clients in medium to larger towns can now benefit from the powerful medium of Optic Fibre connections, that has since the Soccer World Cup tournament become much more affordable.
Customers with access to Fibre Optic cable can now host their Telephony services, with Video interfacing, internet and data exchanges on one medium at lightning fast speed.

Voice over Internet Protocol as a communication medium has become extremely popular in Kwa Zulu/Natal and mainly because the service can be provided via a wireless radio network. New wireless networks are implemented at regular intervals and larger enterprises can afford to have their own networks build to gain access to Fibre Optic stations that are not in their immediate proximity.
The latest fast growth in the VOIP industry can be attributed to the safer networks it provides, with less cable theft problems, and also the cost savings factor. Enterprises with remote offices gain substantial savings due to free communication between offices connected via VOIP. Inter office communications can be free with VOIP and the quality of VOIP to VOIP calls is excellent.

Vukatel provides fast and effective service to clients and has a network of agents throughout Kwa Zulu/Natal that can provide clients with a VOIP option to meet your needs. Voip is also the most flexible option and new numbers and lines can be added in minutes. To relocate premises is as quick as the internet medium to host the Voip service can be provided. In areas where internet services is available it is as simple as “plug and play” and consumers can transfer their own telephone system in minutes.

Hosted PBX” is a new service, provided by Vukatel in association with O-Tel. With the Hosted PBX option, extensions are hosted on the internet “1Cloud”, and clients can increase and reduce their telephone extensions as their needs change. All IVR, mailboxes and services are hosted on the internet and clients can buy or rent handsets, ensuring they are always equipped and have access to the latest technology available.
